Agile: Working Software

Part of the Agile Software Development manifesto is “working software over comprehensive documentation” and nothing rings truer to me.  How often is the documentation accurate anyway?  Software changes faster than documentation and always will.  Developers forget to make updates and it isn’t just written documents, it is comments as well.  One thing about writing documents like support guides is they can be a great learning experience and point out flaws in the software.  The flaws may be in the design or simply just bad names.  Once you try to describe the software for another developer, you realize the mistakes you’ve made.
