OCAP: OpenCable Application Platform

OpenCable Application Platform, or OCAP, is an Java based middleware layer designed for consumer electronics that connect to a cable television system. It is designed by CableLabs to implement interactive services such as T-Commerce, online banking, Electronic program guides, and digital video recording. The application server bundles the application and any data files associated with it in the Object Carousel format to transport the information to the client. A table called the Application Information Table (AIT) also gets sent tell the client there is an application coming and where it is. The application data is transmitted with the video stream. The client reads the AIT and launches the application.
